Train Your Dog to Stop Barking - 10 Tips

By John Joseph Hammer

10 Tips To Train Your Dog To Stop Barking

1- Make a loud noise each time your dog barks such as a clapping sound or shake a can filled with pennies.
2- Use a command as "Quiet" aided by splashing a small amount of water in your dogs face by a dixie cup or squirt gun. The association of water with barking will prevent the dog from barking.
3- Try leaving on a radio when not at home as your dog may be lonely and may calm hearing a human voice.
4- Get another pet for companionship to keep your dog interested such as cat, dog or aquarium.
5- Bark collars may have corrective actions such as a piercing noise, a mild shock or release of citrus scent.
6- Dog Walking Service- if your dog is alone for eight to ten hours (which is normal for those employed) your dog may be lonely and this will break up routine.
7- Talk to your vet, sometimes a dog may bark if it is ill or anxious.
8- Leave your television on for the moving pictures to break up monotony.
9- Dogs that are left outside are often the cause of more complaints. Do not leave your dog outside for long periods of time.
10-Positive reinforcement by command to "Bark" or "Speak" with reward such as offering a treat with "Good Bark/ Good Speak". Then negate command when dog barks and unwanted with "No Bark/ No Speak" to instruct dog not to bark.

Teaching a dog to stop barking is corrective in nature.
