When you buy yourself a new dog, the thing that you want the most is that he should be able to abide by your every command, but for that what is needed the most is a good effort on your part and of course the co-operation of your dog. To know how to train your dog to come to you the things that you would require are a long check cord, a whistle and some dog treats. You will get to know that dog training is not a big deal, with the right kind of attitude you will be able to nail it in a just a couple of weeks.
To start with this training what you need to do is to make him understand the command sit. Once he gets the hang of it you just have to get about 25 feet of rope and attach a snap loop on the end and carefully attach it to the dog's collar. Then you can ask the dog to sit for a few times. For best results just push him down a bit whilst saying this. When the dogs are accustomed to this command then you can start with the real command that is "come". To do this you just have to blow the whistle and just say "come" along with a motioning with your hand. He will understand what you want in a bit. When he does that once, just praise him whole heartedly, he will be flattered and will try to do it again to gain your attention.
Always take care of a few things whilst you are at it. Don't use a harsh tone while training your dog. Dogs are sensitive creatures more so when they are just puppies. If you use a tone that is loud, they can get extremely offended. Don't punish your dogs without any reason and never with beating them up, it is downright cruel. Try to keep the commands simple and understandable for the dog. One word commands like sit and come are always welcome by the little puppies; that are too young to understand anything more complex. Always use the same commands and start the commands with a whistle so that the dog associates his actions with the blow of the whistle and follows your command as you want him too. It is very essential to use both whistle and words for dog training. When he has perfectly learned that he is supposed to follow your commands both by whistle and through words, then you can use either of them but before that it is very important to use both of them together.
Never make training a big headache for yourself or your dog. Fifteen minutes for a couple of times each day is more than enough for dog training, as you cannot train these dogs for a period more than that. If you try to stretch it a little bit more than that; chances are the dogs will not respond that well as they will get tired and will lose concentration as well. So, good luck with dog training.
