Arranging Care For Your Pets While Away

By Joseph Devine

As is the case, sometimes pet owners are forced to leave their pets at home while they go on vacation or even out for an extended period of time. While this is hard to do, it is sometimes necessary. Fortunately, there are a variety of services available to help a pet owner care for his or her pets while away.

If the trip is just a short one or a day spent in the office, there are numerous dog walking services in most cities. These services typically come collect the dog and take it for a walk in a nearby park then return the dog to its home for the remainder of the day. This service allows a dog a chance to go out to go to the bathroom as well as allowing the dog to be socialized with other dogs. Frequently these dogs will also enjoy some human interaction.

Another option for daily care is doggie day care. This has become such a popular option that some people drop their dog off at day care a couple of times a week just to give the dog an opportunity to play with others.

For longer trips, there are a variety of options available. Many people have a neighbor that can come in and look after the dog while they are away. Some people have family friends that will take the dog to their house for the duration of the vacation. This, for longer trips, is better for the dog as it is not left home alone for such a long period. Dogs, like people, go a little nuts without contact with people and socialization.

If these options are not available, a vet may be able to board the dog during a vacation. There are also grooming places that will take dogs for boarding. This option is acceptable to most people and is the most widely utilized option. Unfortunately, even with runs, some dogs are still not allowed the amount of exercise or freedom to which they are accustomed.

The same doggie day care facilities that provide daily care for pets frequently offer extended stay pet hotels. These accomplish the same things as day care. For dogs accustomed to going to day care, this could be the best option available for the pet.

Regardless of what option is selected, it is very important that the pets be kept happy and have a routine established with which they are happy. For more information on issues surrounding pets, please visit http://www.miamiveterinarianclinics.com.
