By Rikard Ingvarsson

The arrival of a dog in any family is certainly the reason of a great joy. It not only renders a fresh air of merriment into the family but also influences each member with its aptitudes and also attitudes. Well, this may prove to be short-lived if it is found to be impolite, obstinate and also unruly. What should be done? Should you return the dog to its erstwhile owner? If it\'s not possible, what will you do? Your only weapon in this situation and to change the destiny is comprehensive and consistent dog obedience training.

You should initiate the dog obedience training from the very beginning since any further delay will only worsen the situation. Well you are not the first person to do this since each and every owner of a dog is habituated with this. However the success of the training depends on the firmness of the owner. The training is not as easy as many think and for this you must have the consistency and also grit. You should begin by estimating the breed of the dog. There are several breeds whose successors are always dominating. On the contrary there are several followers also. You must gauge the breed and train accordingly. If you err, the consequence may not be satisfactory.

It is often found that an owner scolds or punishes the dog for the sake of any mistake. This should never be done. The dog will feel bad consequently and start having negative thoughts of you as well. This will aggravate the reigning relationship between you two and it may become aggressive or timid in due course. In any way you will be the worst sufferer. You should, hence, appreciate the performance of the dog, whenever it excels, broadmindedly. It is better to introduce reward training at this moment. What is reward training? It is a way of appreciating the dashing performance of the dog by means of giving treat or any desired object of it. You can also pat on its neck and head and this is liked by each and every dog.

Now, as far as the command training is concerned, try to make it as simple as possible. Each command of the command training should be specific, unambiguous and of one-word. Never give the dog any command that may frustrate it. You must keep a close watch on the reaction of the dog during this period. If you ever find that the commands do not contribute into its personality and character, you must change it.

You must observe the reaction, temperament of the dog. If it is dejected, it is better to leave it. But try to estimate the reason of this situation. If it is found that the reason can be rectified, you should do it without any delay. Nonetheless you should always try to establish your own leadership. Dogs being wild animals, originally, prefer to live in packs under the suzerainty of alpha dogs. The dogs are habituated this with this concept through generations. You must be the same leader.
