Puppy's First Week

By Roosevelt Purification

Bringing a puppy home is a wonderful experience. You should be happy, excited and responsible. Before bringing your new family member you need to take certain steps. For example buy the necessary things a puppy need. Such as a dog bed or crate, food, water bowls, collar, toys and leash.

Next you will need to prepare your home to be safe for her. Move out sensitive furniture, important documents, electric wires and anything important or dangerous your puppy can reach.

Have a meeting with the whole family. Talk to them about certain responsibilities, some of the things they will need to do, some of the things they might have to sacrifice, and make sure everyone is ready to accept her. You can design a schedule to do certain things with the puppy and who will be doing it.

When the puppy comes home, everyone most likely would like to play with her, feed her, show her a lot of attention and might let her go for certain things. It is crucial that the puppy grows up with proper nurture and manners. For example if the puppy is chewing your furniture, simply say "Don't" and give her one of her toys to chew on. So, as the puppy grows up she will learn to stay away from house hold items and the words "Don't" means to let go of the thing she is doing.

Sometimes when you bring a puppy home, you might not feel like leaving her in the crate or her special bed. It is very natural and sometimes we don't have any control over it. However, keep in mind when a new puppy comes home, she doesn't yet know what area is for what. For example she can't distinguish if she will sleep in your bed, clear her bladder or both. It is crucial that you train your puppy to sleep in her own bed. Because chances are when you wake up in the morning you will be in mess. This could make you very angry and take the whole excitement away.

Before bringing your puppy designate a special room for her, until she's potty trained. It is recommended to setup the whole room floor with newspapers. So, when she messes up you can easily clean up. Setup her food, and water bowls in one corner. Chances are she will be running around and might spill.

Your puppy is also a living being. She has her own conscience, and emotions. It is best not to shout at the puppy and also keep her away from any kind of arguments you are having with your family members. The best thing you can do is take your puppy in a socialization class. Over there both of you will learn certain things, behavior training and much more. However, keep in mind you can't take your puppy right after she's home.

There are different kinds of canine disease lurking around which targets puppies. Schedule an appointment for a veterinary visit. When the specialist says it is okay to take her out, you may take your puppy for the special and important class.

Overall have fun, take the time to act out your responsibilities, take her to socialization class and you will have a faithful, and mature friend for the rest of her life.
