Yorkshire Terrier a Hypoallergenic Dog

By Anna W

When my children were growing up, I bought them a Yorkshire terrier because it is a hypo hypoallergenic dog. My daughter has allergy and it was essential to have a dog that did not irritate her. They named him Mickey. He was a puppy when we bought him home. Mike taught my children to have responsibility such as grooming, brushing the dog's teeth, giving vitamins, feeding, walking, toilet training, and teaching simple tricks. Yorkshire terrier is great with children and is very smart and affectionate. In general, it is not an alpha dog. It is submissive, gentle, and loyal.

Appearance:

The breed is known for its compact size. Mike was only 5 pounds. When it is a puppy, the coat is very dark but it lightens up as it matures. The breed is known for it's long-haired with no undercoat, so it does not shed as much as dogs with short hair. The hair is similar to human and continues to grow and rarefy falls out. Also, the dog has less dander on their coat and don't have an unpleasant dog smell.

Intelligence

Yorkshire Terrier ranks 27th out of 132 breeds tested according to Dr. Stanley Coeh, an expert on animal intelligence. Here is his quotation: "This capacity as working dogs enables Yorkers to excel in sports like obedience and agility, which require the dog to understand communication from the handler and carry out a complex series of commands.[6] Additionally, Yorkies learn to recognize numerous words and can be taught to distinguish and fetch separate toys in a box by their names.[6]"

Summary

The breed is hypoallergenic and children who suffer from allergy can enjoy having a pet. Our dog didn't have a dog odor or shedding problems. It's temperament is gentle, easy to train, loyal, highly intelligent and a great indoor pet. My children enjoyed having him as a family member.
