Grooming Your Dog

By David Burelsmith

It is true, grooming your dog can be something you and your dog look forward to. If you are stressed and angry about the mess, then pay someone else to do it. Grooming is one of the important activities to be done well by the dog owner.

First steps of grooming consists of activities like maintenance of coat, nails and ears. The maintenance of the coat mainly consists of enrichment measures like proper bathing, combing, etc. The animal need not be bathed daily, and this helps to protect the natural coat characteristics like insulation features. If you make brushing your dog a regular activity, you will find it is a time you both look forward to. If you constantly put it off, and try to untangle a mess when you do not have time to do it correctly and calmly, you and your dog will hate it. Brushing your dog can be done while watching TV, or reading online articles, just do it.

Use conditioners and shampoos that are meant for dogs. Combing needs to be carried out with a soft brush meant for use on dogs. There are varieties of brushes available and depending on the type of breeds, one can use the appropriate brush. This grooming of the coat should be done daily. Few dog owners do this, but if you can make yourself do it for two weeks, you will be convinced of the value of it to your dog and your relationship with your dog.

Is that all there is to dog grooming? No. But, if you can master having a dog that is usually clean and routinely brushed, all the other grooming tasks will easily follow.
