If you are getting a new dog or puppy, there are some dog supplies that you will need before your bring your pet home. Some dog supplies are optional while other are necessary.
Necessary Dog Supplies
- Water Bowl - make sure the water bowl is sturdy enough so your new puppy or dog won't knock it over when drinking. The cheap ones made of plastic are not good enough and if you get one, you will probably have to dish out some more money for a better one later on.
- Food Bowl - Just like water bowls, the food bowl also needs to be sturdy enough to allow you puppy dog to eat with it moving all over the place
- Leash - You will need a regular walking leash and you might also want to consider a long training leash (lead) or a retractable leash
- Collar - Make sure the collar you get is big enough so when your puppy grows you don't need to get another one
- Dog Food - Your should ask the breeder that you get your dog from (or the shelter) what type of food your dog is on. If you would like to provide your dog with a different brand of dog food, then mix the new food with the old food slowly. If you start giving your dog a different brand of food right away, he or she might not eat it.
- A vet - You should always choose a vet that you are comfortable with before you get your puppy. After all, your dog will need vaccinations in the first few months and every year after that.
- Toys - Toys are a necessity for dogs, especially puppies. Not only are they fun, but if you don't provide your puppy with toys, they might end up destroying your house out of boredom.
Just remember that this is the bare minimum of what dog supplies you should get before you get your new puppy or dog.
