Well, we all have our likes and dislikes. Some folks like to drink beer out of cans, and champagne out of flutes. While the idea of us drinking out of the toilet may discus us humans, let's look at it from Rovers point of view.
Dogs consider the toilet a natural spring fed porcelain fountain. The toilet water is better, because it is fresher, and cooler. It hasn't been sitting around in a little bowl for hours. This magic toilet water is refreshed, and renewed with every push of the handle. The water stays cooler longer because of the porcelain container, and possibly the larger surface area of the toilet bowl leads to greater evaporation. Also, toilets are made of material that doesn't alter the taste, like a plastic or metal bowl. Possibly, Rover is going back to his survival instincts. Dog's natural instinct is to choose running water, usually from a stream. In nature, moving water doesn't have as much yeast, molds and contaminants. These things usually breed in stagnant pools of water, like a dog bowl. Wouldn't you rather drink out of a fresh mountain stream, rather than a stagnant pond?
Many experts agree that letting the dog drink out of the toilet is not the best idea. Why?
Because toilets may contain the residue of cleaning chemicals. With this in mind I have come up with 2 solutions.
- Don't clean your toilet or
- Keep the lid down. Your choice...... Don't let Rover Down.
After all, a mountain stream or a stagnant pond.....
