You're the kind of person who wants to take great care of your pet. He's always there to support you and provide you with unconditional loyalty, love, and friendship. So how can you make sure you're returning the favor? It's easy to do. Follow these ten tips and you will be giving your dog the life he dreams of.
1. Daily exercise. There are few things in the world that a dog loves more than his walk. Get him out and about and he will love you for it.
2. Pick up premium dog food. Swing by the vet's office and get recommendations for the best food for your dog and the proper amount of daily kibble. Stick to these recommendations to ensure continued pet health.
3. While you're at the vet make sure your dog is up to date on his shots and any other medical needs.
4. Outfit your dog with a collar for daily wear and keep a nametag with contact information (phone number and address) on his collar. Pick up a quality leash for him to wear anytime he is outside of his fenced yard or the house (except, of course, when he's at leash-less events such as a leash-less dog park).
5. Get involved in dog training. Taking the time to work one-on-one with your dog will provide you with the ability to communicate directly with him by obedience cues he knows and forming a strong bond between you two. It's also fun.
6. Have your dog spayed or neutered. Unless you have specific breeding plans - or expect to in the near future - it's better for your dog's health and attitude as well as for dogs in general because pet overpopulation is a major problem.
7. Spend time playing with your dog. Make sure to give him lots of positive attention and affection.
8. Socialize your dog. Give him a chance to meet lots of other dogs and people.
9. Provide consistent, positive leadership. Set fair house rules and make sure he follows them. Be calm and consistent whenever enforcing the rules.
10. Provide lots of variety to keep your dog entertained. Interactive toys, trips to the park, training and games are excellent ways to keep him mentally stimulated.
