Trying to Combat Dog Urination? Treat the Problem at the Source

By Daria Godian

Dog urination has always been a matter of concern for every dog owner. Very often dogs exhibit peculiar behavior with their urination - urinating in odd places, at odd times and acting as if they cannot control it. It is nothing to worry about or get angry over, such behavior is quite natural in dogs.

There are specific circumstances under which dogs might show abnormal urination. To cure such tendencies in your dog you must discover the root cause and create a solution. Are you the kind of person who, when returning home to your dog, finds them urinating from being overly excited? Does the same problem occur when your friends or visitors arrive at your residence? It can be very embarrassing to have your dog peeing in front of your guests - who wants that to happen?

Spontaneous dog urination may also occur when someone scolds them or shouts at a high pitch. Sometimes lightening, thunder storms, rain or certain loud noises may also prompt them to show submissive urination. Theories and opinions suggest that this kind of dog urination is shown by the dog attempting to express the submission of his power and dominance to his owner. A good experiment would be to try approaching your animal more gently and less aggressive - observe the results with your dog's urination patterns.

Several other ways have been suggested to prevent abnormal dog urination. First of all, you will have to develop a rule with your dog that they should not urinate inside the house - this almost goes without saying. Implementing a routine task or cue will prompt the dog to understand when it is time to go outside for urination. Using a technique like this will cause your dog to hold their urges to urinate until the cue or task is prompted by the owner.

Here are a few spare tips to help you when you go to control your dog's urination. Always reward them with their favorite treat whenever they obey your orders. Never agitate your dog or excite them with your behavior either. Also, try not to look straight into your dog's eyes after returning home since this will get them overly excited and likely cause urination to occur.
