Dog Or Technology?

By Hans Bool

Where I live people have massively chosen for dogs, but I would recommend them to use technology.

The advantage of a dog over an alarm system is that the first is portable and mobile enough to use both in urban areas as well as on the country side. But this is the only advantage.

You should feed a dog, you must walk it, basically it requires some attention, although I often get the idea that the dogs outside are alarm systems with four legs. But they require continues maintenance. An alarm system on the other hand is maintenance-free for most of the time. You should check it every other period to secure its right functioning.

A dog barks - false alarm - nine out of ten times. And then the decisive moment you are not certain whether it will do bark; at night and when there is a burglar around.

An alarm system is silent nine out of ten, and alarms only when really necessary. This may not be completely true because the alarm should be configured or calibrated rightly. But this should give you a safer feeling. How save do you feel with a dog in the patio?

Both have the advantage of the signaling effect. The dog's presence will warn burglars and so does the alarm system when you place in a visible location.

Noise is a factor that is decisive if you care for the environment. So if you take a dog - for that purpose - I would recommend training it to signal only in serious cases, whenever that may be. Otherwise, especially for the environments' sake I would recommend to use technology.
