Dog Obedience Training - Common Mistakes

Are you on the verge of starting any dog obedience training? If you are, you should be careful of the mistakes. Why this is said so? You may ask this. The first and foremost reason is that almost every owner commits the same mistakes while imparting the dog obedience training. For this reason the result becomes abortive and as result the program of training ends abruptly. Each and every dog is intelligent and hence comprehends every instruction a better manner. You should remember this and refrain yourself from making any wrong approach.

What are the common mistakes? The first and foremost of them is to pamper. This is common with every owner but is undoubtedly a grave approach. It is true that the only an owner can be the best trainer since he understands the dog in the best way. But often it is found that he, in spite of being a trainer, indulges the dog by giving frequent treats and in a friendly mode. These should be stopped at once or you will not be able to exert your commands on it in even in the near future. Now it is good to keep friendship. But it proves to be detrimental in dog obedience training.

You have started the training to earn obedience from it and not to make it a good friend of yours. Dogs, though are residing in the human societies as domestic animals for centuries, in fact are wild animals. For this reason they prefer to live in packs and under the protection of a leader. This leader is omnipotent in the pack and that makes others bow before it. The dogs are acquainted with this concept. Hence, if you succeed in establishing yourself as its friend, the result will be disastrous. You will be deemed as a friend and will never earn obedience. You should not do it. Try to establish your dominance in every way from the initiation of the training.

Another mistake takes place at the time of command training. Normally the command training should be made simplest in every way. However, in point of fact, at each time the reverse is done. Many trainers are found to instruct their dogs in ambiguous, harsh ways and in two words. For instance there may be no difference between "Come" and "Coooome" to you. But this is enough to confuse a dog and as a result it may fail to act in the desired way. This may also quell its spirit and as a result the training suffers. On the contrary you should proceed with the simplest commands and repeat the same for at least 15 minutes every day. This should continue for the first two weeks. It will also develop the fellow feeling between you two.

Never also try to punish the dog physically or even admonish it. These mistakes should not be repeated since they may turn it to aggressive or timid. But in both ways you will be the greatest loser.

You should check yourself from repeating these mistakes. Your success depends on these only.
