Advantix Tick Control

By Charles Kitsen

Ticks are nasty, biting insects that harbor harmful diseases. By not treating your pet you are leaving them open to all kinds of risk. Advantix for tick control is a topical application that is administered once a month and comes in a convenient pack of 4 or 6 vials - enough for up to 6 months.

Advantix also comes in 4 different strengths - according to the weight of your dog. So whether your furball weighs under 10lbs or over 55lbs, Advantix makes tick control for you.

Ticks are present throughout the year in the United States. All four species feed actively on dogs during the spring, summer, and fall months. Brown Dog Ticks also feed during the winter months. Depending on the part of the country you live, you can have up to all four varieties in your region - therefore it is paramount that you provide the proper protection for your pet.

What kind of harm can a tick do?

Ticks not only cause disease in pets but in humans too. Ticks bite and pass along the organisms that cause the disease in this manner. Deer Ticks carry Lyme disease but research has now shown that a second tick also carries the organisms that cause Lyme - the western black legged tick.

Rocky Mountain spotted fever is also transmitted via two ticks, the American Dog Tick and the Wood Tick.

With a wide distribution of these parasites and the growing number of dogs owned by people, it stands to reason our exposure to the prospect of disease is increased.

Ticks spread disease and the only way to prevent that is to use a medication that has been proven effective in eradicating the problem.

Advantix was developed by the trusted company Bayer - who has long worked in the area of animal and human healthcare. They developed a medication with double the punch of regular flea and tick products you can find at your local pet store.

Two active and effective ingredients - imidacloprid and permethrin - are teamed together to work at preventing ticks from causing any of the detrimental health issues we have already discussed.

Not only does Advantix kill the ticks, it also prevents them from attaching to the dog by biting - thus avoiding the prospect of your dog becoming infected with a potentially fatal disease.

All this is offered in a topical once a month application that you don't need a prescription for - so no visits to the vet to get this medication.

If your dog likes to take a swim - don't worry - Advantix is water-resistant and will continue being effective even after repeated dips, or baths.
