Bad Reasons For Wanting a Puppy Dog

By Peter Madrid

A puppy dog is a large responsibility and most people who never owned dogs before don't realize how big it can get. If you are seriously considering bringing a dog into your life, you have to ask yourself a few questions.

First, you have to ask yourself why you really want a dog. Many people get a dog for the wrong reasons. Some parents decide to get a dog just because their kids have been nagging them about getting one. Usually the children promise to take care of the dog and accept full responsibility in taking care of the new pet. Once you bring the dog home however, parents usually end up taking care of the dog. This includes cleaning, playing, walking and training.

Some just want a dog to look tough in front of others. These individuals usually get a big "masculine" dog but end up giving it away later when they realize that having a dog is a lot of responsibility. As a result, the dog never gets the proper socialization and training and will probably end up spending his or her life in a shelter or worse yet, get euthanized.

The second question you have to ask yourself is do you really have the time and commitment to take care of a dog. Remember, just because you love dogs and really want one, doesn't mean you have the time to take care of the dog.

Too many times, a person will get a dog only to realize that they don't have the time to give the dog the love and attention they deserve. If you live alone, or your house is always empty because family members are always working, you may want to consider another pet. Dogs are pact animals and love to be with their family. If your dog is always alone he will suffer!
