Puppy Potty Training

By Vic Lee

Bringing a new puppy home is much like bringing a new baby home. Training your new puppy where to potty will take time and patience.

Here are a couple of tips to help you with puppy potty training.

It is best to start potty training for your puppy between 2-3 months of age because it has better muscle control then.

You should develop a schedule in which you take out your puppy into the proper potty area for at least an hour every day. This way your puppy will know at what time each day is potty time. Following this schedule is very helpful and your puppy will learn quickly.

It is important that you only say NO! to your puppy if you catch it in the exact moment it is going potty in the wrong place. There is no need for roughness or the puppy can start to fear you. Simply say NO! and take your puppy to the proper potty area.

When your puppy does a good job and goes outside or in the allowed potty area make sure to give it treats and appraisals. It is important that you praise your puppy for a job well done.

You can also take advantage of puppy training pads to help your puppy learn where to potty, especially if you live in a small area.

If you don't have a backyard and have a busy schedule and can't take your puppy outside frequently then it is important that you crate train your puppy so it doesn't get in trouble while you are out. But if you get a puppy then you should be able to take your puppy outside at least 2-3 times a day.

It is also important that you buy a puppy stain and odor remover because if you clean the stains with regular cleaners your puppy will most likely find the spot again and make another mess. Puppy stain removers get rid of the stain and odor so your puppy can not find the same spot again.
