Keep Your Dog From Jumping on People

In many dog breeds, whether small or large, jumping can be a big problem, especially if your dog likes to jump on other people as well.

Dogs are naturally very social animals and they like to greet others by jumping on them. Also, you may have encouraged your dog to jump without knowing. This is because many owners also greet there dog when they jump, so naturally the dog learns that this is okay to do.

In order to keep your dog from jumping on people then your dog must learn to not jump on anyone; this means yourself, your family members and any other guests.

A great way to teach your dog to stop jumping is by doing this repetitive movement. When you dog jumps on you, take a hold of its paws until your dog starts to struggle and then let go and say OFF! Do this as many times needed. A dog is uncomfortable about being held at the paws so this way your dog will learn that every time it jumps it will be uncomfortable.

When your dog is on the ground, reward it with a treat and praise. Also when you come home or when you greet your dog, make sure that you lower down to your dogs level so it doesn't have to jump. Again, give you dog treats and appraisals for greeting you on all four paws.

These steps should also be repeated with other family members, and let guests know to firmly say OFF! as well.

Remember that your dog is jumping because it is happy to see you. There is no need for roughness or your dog can become scared of you, which is something you don't want. Just have patience and repeat these steps and your dog will learn to greet you by not jumping.
