Dog Bowl - How to Find the Perfect One For Your Canine

A dog bowl may not seem like a real issue to many, you figure any one will do. The fact is there should be some thought in to the one you purchase, there are differences. The bowl will have various requirements due to the dog's size, activity, if he stays in doors or out, and his chewing habits.

Dog Bowl for Small Canines

Smaller dogs will require less thought put in to the type of food or water bowl you decide on. You really only need to ensure that it is not too big for your pet and that the food serving size will fit nicely inside it. If your dog is a chewer, you may want to find a metal bowl to avoid having chunks taken out of it and having to replace it frequently. A good stainless steel dog bowl is good for an outdoor dog as well; it can withstand the weather much better than some other types of bowls.

Dog Bowl for Larger Dogs

Larger dogs will require a larger one; you need to ensure the amount of food per serving will fit in to the bowl and the larger amounts of water as well. You should keep in mind that the dog may have a chewing habit and a stainless steel bowl or a tougher made material may be needed. You do not want to have to replace the one you purchase frequently due to chunks being taken out of it. You also want to prevent any choking that could occur from your pet trying to eat it bowl.

Outdoor Dogs

If you have an outdoor dog, you want to make sure the bowl you choose will endure the weather. Some types of bowls can crack in the extreme cold temperatures and leave fragments for the dog to choke on. You need to ensure the bowl is heavy and will not be knocked over easily. You might want to consider self feeders that are contained for the outdoor dog, the birds and other small animals may be eating his food and you are not aware of it. A self feeder will at least allow him a constant supply of food, so if natures little creatures decide to steal, he has enough to go around.

Indoor Dogs

Your indoor dog bowl will not need to be weather proof, does not require self feeding features, and can be decorative and stylish to fit your décor. For larger dogs, they offer standing options that will allow your beloved pet to eat with out having to lower his face all the way to the ground. You should keep in mind with all of them; you do not want something that will get knocked over easily, the heavier the bowl, the better.
